One Knox falls 1-0 to South Georgia Tormenta on the road
STATESBORO – One Knoxville dropped a critical game 1-0 against South Georgia Tormenta FC and lost its second consecutive match this past Saturday night. One Knox now sits 8th in the standings and four points outside of a playoff spot.
Despite One Knox outshooting South Georgia 18 to 14, Tormenta were the only ones to convert a chance in the match. Midfielder Mukwelle Akale bagged the game’s only goal at the end of the first half in the 48th minute after striking a beautiful free kick from 25 yards out.
Leading up to the goal, One Knox was winning the possession battle. The team had 52.3% of the ball and put up 11 shots, seven of which were on target. However, only 28.1% of the play was in the South Georgia third of the field, according to PressBox Live stats. Knoxville wasn’t able to capitalize on any of its chances in the first half.
In the second half, the same trend continued. Knoxville had more shots on target, three to one, but still failed to capitalize on a big chance. The biggest chance came in the 56th minute, where Jordan Skelton had a point-blank header but pulled it just wide of the goal.
Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara had an outstanding game. He saved all seven shots-on-target by One Knox and secured his second clean sheet of the season. Knoxville keeper Sean Lewis only had to save three shots, not including the free-kick goal.
Knoxville falls to 9-9-11 on the season and remains 8th in the table with three games left to play in the regular season. They currently trail 6th place, the final playoff position, to Greenville Triumph SC by four points. Greenville also has two games in hand.
One Knox’s next match will be at Charlotte Independence on Saturday, September 30th. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
