Recap: One Knox takes three points in a 2-1 victory at Forward Madison FC
One Knoxville SC took a 2-1 win vs. Forward Madison FC behind an incredible performance from goalkeeper Sean Lewis on Saturday night. One Knox finished their three-game road trip with two wins, but Forward Madison did not make things easy.
Madison dominated offensively throughout the game, outshooting One Knox 28 to eight with ten shots on target and 18 shots inside the box. However, One Knox goalkeeper Sean Lewis held strong throughout the night, accounting for eight saves and only allowing one goal.
Even with the barrage of shots coming from Forward Madison, One Knox was the first team to get on the scoreboard. Defender Jalen Crisler headed in a corner ball past the opposing keeper in the 24th minute to give One Knox the early 1-0 advantage.
Madison quickly responded in the 32nd minute when midfielder Nazeem Bartman scored to level the game at 1-1. Forward Jayden Onen got the assist thanks to a well-timed through ball.
One Knox didn’t wait long to retake the lead, however. In the 37th minute, Forward Jake Keegan split the defense, ran down the side of the goal, and passed the ball back to forward Frank Ross who put the ball in the back of the net. Teams went into halftime with a 2-1 scoreline.
In the second half, Forward Madison picked up the pace in search of a second equalizer. They had 60.6% possession and 17 shots with seven of them on target. Despite the push, Sean Lewis saved all seven of these shots on goal including a crucial save in the 96th minute to seal the win.
With two wins in their last three matches, One Knox moves to 7th in the standings with 28 points. They’re just four points behind Greenville Triumph FC, who occupy the final playoff spot (top 6) with 32 points. Forward Madison falls to 4th in the table with 36 points.
