Recap: One Knox loses 3-1 on the road to Union Omaha

One Knoxville SC lost 3-1 at Union Omaha on Saturday night in the second of three straight road games.
The game started with a quick pace in the first half, with both teams creating chances and counterattacking. One Knox had most of the possession and shots to start, amassing 58.3% posession in the first 15 minutes and outshooting Omaha five to two in the first half-hour.
Despite the One Knox pressure, Union Omaha was the first to get on the scoreboard in the 26th minute. Midfielder Joe Brito received a ball in the box after a batted-around cross and scored from ten yards out. It was his first goal of the season that gave Omaha the early 1-0 lead. Their advantage would last through the end of the first half.
The second half started disastrously for One Knox. In the first minute of the half, midfielder Angelo Kelly was shown a second yellow card after committing a hard tackle, resulting in a red card. It was Kelly’s first red card of the season, which sent Knoxville down to ten men for the remainder of the game.
From that point on, Omaha dominated the half. They outshot Knoxville 15 to five, putting six on target with eight inside the box. Their solid play resulted in a pair of goals in the second half. The first goal came in the 59th minute from midfielder Conor Doyle, who headed a cross inside the far post. In the 97th minute during stoppage time, the second goal of the half came from forward Chavany Willis who fired a ball from 30 yards out past the goalkeeper.
One Knox did was able to grab a goal back in the end. Forward Callum Johnson poked a rebound in the goal inside the six-yard box to make the score 3-1 in the 98th minute during stoppage time. It was Johnson’s third goal of the season.
One Knox remains eighth in the standings with 25 points and a league-high 22 games played. They are seven points behind sixth-place Greenville Triumph FC for the final playoff spot. Union Omaha advanced to third place with 34 points and 21 games played.
One Knox’s next game will be the final game of its three-game road trip at Forward Madison FC next Saturday, August 12. The match starts at 8:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
