The 17-year-old has been involved in One Knox’s first team setup since its formation in 2022. Santos was involved in Knoxville’s USL League Two setup after climbing the ranks in Nashville SC Academy.
Last season, the youngster was able to earn his way into a first-team spot and signed an Academy contract for One Knox. He made his professional debut against the Richmond Kickers on October 6th for what would lead to 2 more first-team appearances before the season drew to a close.
The local Knoxville native has renewed his USL Academy contract ahead of the 2024 season and will look to have an impact on Knoxville’s upcoming USL League One campaign.
Coach Mark McKeever describes Santos as a player with a great foundation who is growing fast with his learning experiences. Coach McKeever said, “Leo has a great technical ability and the potential to grow and mature in all aspects of his game.” He continued, “He can become an important part of our team and contribute positively to this culture. I am excited to see him continue to evolve.”
We asked Santos what it meant to him to have a place in One Knox’s first team. He said, “it means everything to me to have a place in this team. It is hard for me to regard myself as a first-team player until I have earned those minutes and score some goals.” He continued, “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get the 2024 season started.”
